The Indian hopes at the Australian Open were given a boost as the dynamic pair of Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi stormed in the mixed doubles final.Mirza and Bhupathi marched ahead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Czechs Iveta Benesova and Lukas Dlouhy.Thursday. The duo served and volleyed their way to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Andy Ram and Nathalie Dechy. The 8th seeded French-Israeli pair could not match up to the power packed game of the Indian counterparts and lost in straight sets. The win boosted the moral of a plethora of Asian supporters after their stars had bowed out of the singles competition.
The Indian pair will now meet the winners of Tiantian Sun-Nenad Zimonjic/ Zi Yan/Mark Knowles semi-final.
Their chemistry was already a talk of the town. Sports magazines and gossip-mongers are speculating that something is really cooking!Is it simple sporting cameraderie or something more. Sania has learnt a lot from Bhupathi in the past. Her every move remains under intense media scrutiny.
