Central station to shut down on December 13
The Chennai city’s largest railway station Chennai Central will shut down for a day. For more than 12 hours — 9 am to 9.40 pm — on December 13,the officials have decided to close it down in order to carry out work to extend three platforms to accomodate 24-coach trains.
No in-coming and out-going service will be operated on Sunday and they have planned to make out signalling and track work in addition to platform extension. Sub-Urban Services from Madras Moore Market Complex and parallel operations operate from Chennai Beach.
As there will also be signalling and track work, there will be no suburban services from Madras Moore Market Complex. Arrivals and departures will also be diverted or re-scheduled on December 3, 8 and 10.
Central handles about 1.4 lakh people daily and about 80,000 people flock to the Moore Market complex each day.
